To me mascara is a ‘makeup must’ and so I tend to wear it almost everyday. The only problem with that is wearing regular mascaras so often can make eye lashes dry, brittle and even cause fallout! Since I don’t want those things happening to my eyelashes (at least not any more than it already has after years of regular mascara wearing!), I prefer to use mascaras that will condition my lashes and help make them healthier instead! If you read my recent post about my ‘Amazing Sephora Haul’, you would know that one of my favourite recent purchases is the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara (Just in case you’re wondering, the exclamation mark is part of its name. ) and amongst it’s ability to make my lashes look super fluttery and pretty, the fact that it uses natural ingredients to condition them is part of the reason why I love it so much!
So by now, I’m sure most of you know that I’m a huge Smashbox fan! (You can see some of my Smashbox favourites here and here. ) They are definitely one of my favourite beauty brands available in South Africa, if not one of my favourite beauty brands available anywhere! So I was completely thrilled (like jumping up and down for joy type thrilled!) when I received a bunch of products from the new Smashbox Limited Edition “Love Me” Collection which I had already been eyeing with total lust! I received the products on the day I was leaving for a holiday (Which is also why I haven’t blogged in a while.) so I packed them with me and used the heck out of them while I was away! … Which means you can get the full scoop on the collection and my reviews here.
There is something about red lipstick that can add instant glamour to any outfit! I don’t know about you but when I think ‘glamour’, red lips is one of the first things that always comes to mind! … they just seem to go hand in hand! Which is why I truly believe every girl should have the perfect red lipstick for those days when you want an instant pick me up and/or to ‘wow’ all those who come in sight of you. I actually found this one a few weeks ago and have been addicted to it ever since! It’s the Smashbox ‘Be Legendary’ lipstick in the colour ‘Legendary’ … and let’s just say the name sums it up pretty well!
What started out as a trend that everybody thought would soon turn into a fad doesn’t seem to be going anywhere! … I think people love the Ombre look because, besides being very low maintenance, it allows people to play with colours while keeping the colour that’s most flattering for your complexion near your face! Although Ombre started out as a trend around two years ago, it is now starting to be seen as a more mainstream look as regular women all over the world (not just celebrities and trend setters) are embracing the look. According to Yahoo News “2013 is the year the ‘Ombre Hair Trend’ will become the definitive look, as more and more women try Decolour Ombre kits at home”. Personally, I am thrilled about this as I started out with a subtle Ombre look last year and I am no where close to wanting to retire the trend!
So as many of you might know I’m finally back home in Cape Town, South Africa after visiting my original home Toronto, Canada for the holidays. Since I’ve been back I’ve been fighting off some serious jet-lag and catching up with all the things in my life that have been back logged while I was on vacation … But now that I’m back and finally all caught up I will be back to my regular blogging routines! Besides having an amazing time reconnecting with my friends and family while I was in Canada, I also had an amazing time shopping for all the goodies that I can’t get here in South Africa! … Of course this included emptying a good portion of my wallet at Sephora (since it’s not available in South Africa) and plumping up my cosmetic bag! I have already started using most of these products and I am loving most of them! … Here’s a list of the products that I got … And of course full reviews for them will be coming soon!
One of the hottest makeup trends of the season is wearing a vampy matte plum shade of lipstick … And I just realised that I love it! Although dark, vampy colours like this have a reputation to look ‘goth-ish’, if it’s worn right it doesn’t have to look gothic at all! I didn’t really get into the trend until now because it’s currently summer here in South Africa and plum lipsticks are more of a fall/winter trend … But then I did my Skyfall Bond Girl Makeup Tutorial and I realized that the colour is perfect for a hot evening look whether it’s winter or not! … Which also makes it perfect for the holidays!
Since the holiday season is upon us when everyone wants to look their best at parties, for pictures, etc., I thought this quick little trick that instantly makes your lips look fuller and more plump when applying lipstick could help with that!
I love Bond movies and one of the things I like the most about Bond Movies is to see the Bond Girls’ looks! In fact, seeing what the Bond Girls are wearing and how they do their hair and makeup is sometimes my favourite parts of the movies! … I saw Skyfall about two weeks ago on the opening night here in South Africa and actress Bérénice Marlohe who played the Bond Girl ‘Severine’ definitely did NOT disappoint! I was in complete ‘awe’ of how absolutely stunning she looked! … Everything from her gorgeous gown to her hair and of course … her makeup! She had an absolutely gorgeous sultry version of a ‘reverse smoky eye’ which is a huge makeup trend for 2013 and is a perfect look for holiday parties! So of course I had to try it! This is how I got the look.
I’ve been using this little trick whenever I want to get a quick boost of volume, length and curl out of my mascara for years now … And since all the parties during the holiday season welcome a little extra drama in the eyelash department, I thought I would share the trick with you guys. I also use this trick when my mascara starts running out and isn’t working to it’s full potential, or when I’ve purchased a mascara that doesn’t really give me as much volume, curl, and/or length as I want. (This keeps those mediocre mascaras from going to waste!)Continue reading
