What started out as a trend that everybody thought would soon turn into a fad doesn’t seem to be going anywhere! … I think people love the Ombre look because, besides being very low maintenance, it allows people to play with colours while keeping the colour that’s most flattering for your complexion near your face! Although Ombre started out as a trend around two years ago, it is now starting to be seen as a more mainstream look as regular women all over the world (not just celebrities and trend setters) are embracing the look. According to Yahoo News “2013 is the year the ‘Ombre Hair Trend’ will become the definitive look, as more and more women try Decolour Ombre kits at home”. Personally, I am thrilled about this as I started out with a subtle Ombre look last year and I am no where close to wanting to retire the trend!
I love big loose waves … You know the kind you see on Victoria Secret models but you know they had a hair stylist spending lots of time doing their hair to make it look that way? … Yah, I think those are gorgeous! The thing is … when it comes to my generally unmanageable hair which I have to spend so much time on just to make it look half decent, I usually don’t want to spend any extra time on it just to add some bouncy waves … Even though I love them so much! Usually by the time I finish blow drying my hair to get a smooth finish, I don’t feel like spending extra time to use a curling iron or hair straightener to add curls or waves too … which means I end up with plain old straight hair! … That was until I discovered this technique! With this technique I get the big bouncy loose waves while I’m blow-drying my hair and it just takes a couple of extra minutes to do!
I love the carefree, effortless look of beach wave hair … especially when the look is actually effortless to achieve! You know like that look that the you’re supposed to get after swimming at the beach and letting your hair air dry while you soak up the sun? Well unfortunately for me my hair usually has a mind of it’s own and although my hair is naturally wavy, it is also very frizzy so when I do leave it to air dry it tends to look less ‘Gisele Bundchen waves’ and more ‘I just got electrocuted and this is what it did to my hair’ waves! But since at times I can also be lazy … especially now in the summer when I would rather be out and about than stuck inside doing my hair, I am always on the lookout for a good product that will help achieve that ‘no fuss’ hair that actually looks good!
Although the American Music awards are usually one of the most entertaining award shows, what I find even more fun to watch is the Red Carpet! Not just the sea of gorgeous dresses, shoes and purses … but especially the pretty hair and makeup! When you see the hair and makeup that celebs and their stylists chose to dawn on such a huge event, it also gives you a really good idea of which trends have really taken off and what the next biggest trends might be … And since the holiday season is coming up, it could serve as perfect inspiration for new beauty looks to try during the holidays! Here are eight hair and beauty trends that were spotted at The 2012 American Music Awards.Continue reading
The Ombre hair trend has been around for a long while now … almost too long to consider it just a trend anymore … and rightfully so because it is such a universally flattering look that compliments almost anyone since you can wear it long or short and in a huge array of tones and colours. To top it off, it is quite low maintenance since you don’t have to worry about touching up your roots very often! Personally, I love to lighten my hair in the summer because I just feel like lighter hair usually looks nicer with summer fashion and makeup trends. Also, it gives the hair more dimension and makes it look more ‘sun kissed’ … So I decided what better way to lighten my hair for summer, than to try the Ombre trend on it.
During winter here in South Africa, I think blow dried my hair every single time I washed it because I was too cold to let it air dry when I came out of the shower … what this means is over the last four months (it’s been a long winter here in Cape Town!), my hair has accumulated quite a bit of damage! As I was trying to decide whether I should go to the salon to get a deep conditioning treatment done or read the latest reviews on the best deep conditioners right now, I remembered a tried and tested treatment that my mother used to use on me since I was a child that worked amazingly!
During the spring/summer fashion weeks this hair trend was seen all over runways and recently it’s being spotted more and more on celebrities! The ‘slicked back’ hair style is so effortless yet chic and has become one of Spring/Summer 2012’s hottest hair trends! This style is a great way to bring out your eyes and cheek bones without putting your hair in a ponytail or updo. I personally love it because I get bored of hairstyles easily and there’s only so much of switching your part from a middle part to a side part and back to a middle part that you can do … with this style there’s no part! The look is reminiscent of when you come out of the pool with wet hair and push it straight back to get it out of your face … which I love right now because it reminds me of summer and I’m oh so tired of our rainy winter days here in Cape Town right now!Continue reading
The Autumn/Winter 2012-13 Couture Fashion Week in Paris was last week and of course there are tons of write ups on the beautiful fashion that was presented during the week. However there were also some gorgeous beauty looks created during the week that could be awesome inspiration and possibly upcoming trends! So I decided to do a round up of some of the pretty and interesting beauty looks that were seen at the shows.Continue reading
For anyone who has frizz prone hair, going out on a rainy day can be a dreadful event! Unfortunately, I’m one of those people; water and my hair are not friends! The worst are the days when you’re out, doing your thing and the weather seems fine so you didn’t bring an umbrella (or maybe you just forgot it at home like I did today) … Then suddenly the clouds start closing in on the beautiful blue sky and you hear it … the heavy ‘pitter patter’ of rain! Now you have to figure out how you’re going to get from the place you are at, to you’re car, while keeping any rain that touches your hair to an absolute minimum! ( This is necessary to prevent from ending up with something very big and kind of crazy looking on the top of your head.) At this point some sort of sprint will be done, heels or no heels! If this description rings a bell in any way then you are in the right place.
