New York Fashion Week is over and while the London Fashion Week has begun, it’s now time for a NYFW beauty recap! There were so many cool, interesting and pretty looks going on in the eye makeup done at the NYFW Spring 2013 Shows and although it’s not 2013, it is Spring in South Africa so why not get inspired by them now!
Below are some of the most eye catching, interesting and/or pretty beauty looks that were seen at the NYFW Spring 2012 shows. Although not all of them are wearable in day to day life for us normal folk, it’s always fun to get inspiration from the ‘out there’ runway looks, and use them creatively to try your own look! At least that’s what I like to do … so here are some of the looks I may or may not be taking inspiration from during these Spring months here in SA
At Altazzura the models had bare skin and nude lips with just a swipe of indigo blue liner across their upper lid and I thought it was pretty striking! The indigo is a nice softer alternative to harsh black eyeliner and this look is actually pretty wearable!
Donna Karen had models wearing a bright purple eye shadow circling their entire eye with pink mascara on their lashes. From far these models looked like they had a serious case of pink eye, so it’s definitely not a look you want to copy! However the colour of the eye shadow used was pretty cool, and could probably be pulled off by sticking to good old fashioned black mascara and maybe steering clear of using the eye shadow under the eye, which ended up giving the models that sick look.
Diane Von Furstenburg kept the look simple by using only white eye shadow. I thought it was such a simple way to make the models’ eyes pop … This could be a perfect day time look for Spring!
I love dramatic eye make up for evening looks … so this Marc Jacobs 60’s inspired look is perfect inspiration for just that! It looks like a more modern/updated look of the smoky eye with a very defined crease and eye shadow extending past the corners of the eye. I think it’s such an alluring look! To balance the look off, he had the model’s wearing nude, pale lip colours.
The models at Jason Wu all looked totally stunning with this completely wearable look that almost any body could probably pull off! He paired gold eye shadow with scarlet red lips and black winged eyeliner … Not a very original look but a reminder as to how these three basic colours worn in this classic way can be so pretty and flattering!
Marchesa also used gold with black eyeliner, but rather than eye shadow, it looked more like a tinsel was used and only on the inner corners of the eyes. As his show’s theme seemed to have an Indian inspiration, he was definitely going for a dramatic look! It’s not a wearable look at all, but for the show it had an interesting appeal!
The make up artist at Micheal Kors use thick vibrant green and turquoise eyeliners type lines in a slightly unconventional way. They were drawn into the creases of the lid instead of above the eyelashes and paired with pale white eyeliner above the lashes (where the eyeliner would usually go). The look is a bit stark for everyday, but the vibrant colours, which were both seen at other shows on the runways, were striking and pretty inspiration for spring eye make up!
At the Marc by Marc JAcobs show, mettalic eyeshadow was used around the models’ eyes in silver and/or bronze, giving them a glam but ‘slept in my makeup’ type of look. Another bold eye look that I loved, and if done right it could be a gorgeous evening look!
Both Anna Sui and Betsey Johnson did really funky looks with bold coloured eye shadow and highly exagerated winged eyeliner. Anna Sui used a royal blue on some models and a crimson red on other models, while Betsey Johnson used a vibrant sunshine yellow with grey on all her models. These looks are not for your average ‘girl next door’ and are not wearable by most of us … but I’m sure there are some party goers out there who can find some kind of inspiration from this look!
