One of the major makeup trends for Spring/Summer 2013 that is actually very wearable right now and is perfect for the holiday season is wearing a pop of bright matte colour on the lips … whether it’s hot pink, coral or red! I personally love this trend and find it to be one of the easiest, prettiest makeup looks that when worn with the right eye makeup can be worn during the day and at night! … So I thought I would show you guys how I wear a bright lip colour, taking it from a day look to an evening look.
I love pink! … Especially on lips! And ever since I started seeing this trend everywhere, I realised that I really love bright pink lips! … So for this tutorial I decided to use this Yardley Supermoist lipstick in Rendezvous which is a fuchsia pink lip colour and is one of my current ‘Summer Must Have Makeup’ items. (You can see my full review on it here … I love it because it moisturizes and has SPF too!)
TIP: When wearing a matte lip colour it is very important to make sure that your lips are not dry and flaky because if they are it will show through immediately! The best way to make sure that they are nice and smooth is to exfoliate and moisturize them before applying your lip colour. I use a lip scrub by Lush Cosmetics called Minty Julibs, which you can see my review for here. You can also see more tips on ‘Perfecting a bold coloured lip’ here.
For The Day:
During the day I keep the look very simple by pairing it with a good volume-izing mascara (My current favourite is Too Faced Lashgasm which you can see the review for here.) and using some bronzer, blush and highlighter to contour my face. (To see how I contour, you can see my ‘Quick and Easy Contouring Method’ here.)
That’s all I use for the day time look … By keeping the rest of my makeup to a minimum, I can wear this bright coloured lipstick without looking like I have too much makeup on. This ‘look’ without the pink lip is actually my everyday ‘running errands’ or ‘grocery shopping’ look … with the pink lip it instantly becomes my ‘Shopping with girlfriends’ or my ‘lunch date with the hubby’ look!
For The Evening:
For an easy but equally glam evening look, I do all of the above and add a neutral coloured smoky eye to it. I still keep my eye make up on the more subtle side because I want the focus to be on my lips.
To get the smoky eye, I used three colours from this Stila In The Moment Eyeshadow Palette. (You can see my review for it here)
First I used the colour ‘Instinct’ which is a soft pearly white eye shadow to highlight my brow bone.
Then I used this soft golden colour called ‘Spontaneous’ on my entire eyelid, from lash to brow bone.
Then I used this smoky brown colour called ‘Captivate’ along my upper lash line and along my crease.
I finished it off by blending the eye shadow with a soft clean brush and using my Essence Liquid Eyeliner Pen in black (which you can see my review for here) to apply a slightly winged eyeliner on my upper lash line (You can see tips on how to do the perfect winged eyeliner here). I then line my lower lash-line with a NYX pencil eyeliner in black and my evening makeup look is done!
