So I’m sure that by now you all know about Lush Cosmetics and that they opened at the V&A Waterfront Mall a few weeks ago … And if you read my recent post ‘So Many New Lust-Worthy Beauty Brands Entering Cape Town … Here’s the Lowdown on Them!’ (which you can also read if you don’t know about them and would like to know more), you would know that I recently purchased a few of their products. So, as promised … here is my review on my little Lush(-ous) products haul! (I just had to throw that pun in there!)
For the last few years I’ve been using Body Shop Body Butters religiously every day after my shower but I had just ran out of my last tub when I made my first visit to Lush at V&A Waterfront … So when I felt and smelled their oh so soft feeling and yummy smelling Hand and Body Lotions that are handmade with natural, organic ingredients; I decided it was time for a change! When I asked the sales lady (who was very helpful during my entire visit as she patiently answered all of my few hundred questions and then immediately backed off when she realised I wanted space to browse) which of them is best for dry skin (which is generally a problem for me), she recommended Sympathy For The Skin.
It’s main ingredients are Cocoa Butter, Vanilla Pod Infusion, Almond Oil and … wait for it …. mashed banana! It is supposedly the only body cream in the ‘universe’ that contains real organic mashed bananas which are supposed to be an emollient (an agent that makes the external layers of the skin softer and more pliable) and highly moisturizing! …. Sounds like a nourishing treat for the skin! That was about two weeks ago and since then I’ve since been using it everyday after my shower and I am not regretting my switch at all! What first drew me to it when I was sampling it in the store is one of the reasons I still love it so much … it just feels SO soft! It almost feel like you’re putting a little piece of luxury on your body everyday! … Except that it costs R145 (for 200g) which is actually quite reasonable considering that it’s handmade from ‘fresh, organic’ ingredients. The product feels nice and creamy, and quickly absorbs into the skin so you don’t feel like you have a layer of product on after you’ve put it on. It also smells lovely … my husband noticed the scent too! And of course all the yummy natural ingredients being put to work on my skin is definitely a bonus!. Overall I am really happy with this product and I will probably be replacing my usual body butter with it!
Mint Julips Lip Scrub was the next product I decided to purchase. I love wearing bold coloured lipsticks and to pull them off well you need to have soft smooth lips … and what better way to get soft smooth lips than with a moisturizing lip scrub like this one! Being hand made with Castor Sugar, Organic Jojoba Oil, Vanilla Extract, Tagetes Oil, Peppermint Oil, and NO preservatives, the sales lady informed me that it is completely edible! … And then I read the instructions that say this!
I thought that was awesome! … And yes I tried it! It has a yummy mint flavour (which, as the sales lady pointed out, could also work to freshen your breath! … talk about having a kissable mouth … soft lips and fresh breath!) As for it’s exfoliating ability … I’ve been using it every time my lips feel like they need it and/or as prep when I’m going to wear a strong lip colour and I want my lips to look smooth and to be honest I didn’t notice a huge difference the first time I used it but I did start to notice a difference after using it a few times. So I plan on making this scrub a part of my morning or night routine every two to three days. At R65, I think it’s definitely worth the price and I’ve been pretty happy with it’s results!
The last product I bought was this lip balm infused with Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Organic Virgin Olive Oil, Beeswax, and other yummy ingredients called Lip Service.
I chose this lip balm because the ingredients sound so moisturizing and perfect to get soft lips! I also I had been looking for a good moisturizing lip balm that is made with natural ingredients to include in my nightly beauty routine to wear to bed every night, and this one serves that purpose perfectly! They also had some very pigmented and very pretty tinted lip balms which I was tempted to buy, but unfortunately they do not have SPF in them and I prefer to have SPF in the lip balms I wear during the day. This lip balm does what it promises and keeps my lips ‘supple and crack free’ so I am very happy with the way it works! The only complaint I might have about it, is that it is very hard and therefore difficult to apply with your finger. I end up using it like I would a lip balm in a tube, except that since it’s not in a tube it is very difficult to apply to the corners of the lips … If they put this stuff in a tube container it would be perfect! At R65, I do think it is worth the price because it does do what it’s supposed to and moisturize well. Unless I find another amazing lip balm made from natural ingredients to replace it, I will probably purchase it again.
One of the other things that I thought was cool about all their products is that they are all labelled with expiry dates and … get this … the name of the person who actually made it!
How cool is that?! I also think it’s pretty cute that they have little illustrations of the people who made them … I wonder if they really look like that?! Anyways, back to the expiration dates … I think this is great, because it is really important to make sure that you’re not putting expired products onto your skin … especially because most of their product don’t have preservatives in them. Having the expiry dates makes it a lot easier to keep track of when it’s time to get rid of the product or … if you don’t want to waste any of it … use it up as quickly as possible!
Oh and one more bonus about their products (It’s like the list never ends!); their packaging is made of recycled material and if you take back 5 empty pots or tubes back to them, you get one Lush Mask free! … I’ll have to make sure I don’t throw my empties out!
Hope you guys like this post!
