Although the American Music awards are usually one of the most entertaining award shows, what I find even more fun to watch is the Red Carpet! Not just the sea of gorgeous dresses, shoes and purses … but especially the pretty hair and makeup! When you see the hair and makeup that celebs and their stylists chose to dawn on such a huge event, it also gives you a really good idea of which trends have really taken off and what the next biggest trends might be … And since the holiday season is coming up, it could serve as perfect inspiration for new beauty looks to try during the holidays! Here are eight hair and beauty trends that were spotted at The 2012 American Music Awards.
1) Blunt Bangs:
Blunt bangs seems to be a big one for the night with Carly Rae Jepson, Taylor Swift and Christina Aguilera all sporting the look. While Carly Rae and Taylor Swift wore them with ‘up-do’s’, Christina Aguilera wore hers with a bob.

2) Tousled/Wavy Faux Bobs
Speaking of bobs … Tousled/wavy faux bobs was another big trend of the night. This face framing ‘Do’ was worn by Kerry Washington, Zendaya Coleman, and Brandy … Looking gorgeous on all of them!
3) Side Swept Waves
Side swept waves seem to still be trending as both Kesha, and Lucy Hale wore the look beautifully. I love the look with Lucy Hale’s subtle Ombre hair colour!
4) Pale Pink/Nude Lips
Looks like the bold lip trend is slowly being replaced, because most of the celebs at the 2012 American Music Awards were donning pale pink or nude lips! Jordin Sparks and Carrie Underwood are just two beautiful examples, but if you look at the pictures on this page you’ll see that most of the girls are wearing understated lip colours.
5) Simple Sleek Buns with Barely There Makeup
Is it just me or do Heidi Klum and Elisha Cuthbert look like they have almost the exact same look going on? They both had slicked back hair tied into a simple bun with understated makeup that has a slight shimmer … and to top it off they were both wearing gold dresses!
6) Braided Up-do’s
Looks like the braided up-do trend is also not going anywhere … However I’m not sure if it is going in the right direction. Kimberly Cole, Amy Heidemann, Eden Sher, and Jennifer Morrison were all wearing versions of it … but let’s just say some of their versions were a little ‘out there’! The only one I really liked was Jennifer Morrison’s.
7) Retro ‘Sky High’ Hair
Both Jenny McCarthy and Pink wore retro hairstyles that added inches to their height! Jenny McCarthy had a bouffant that supposedly mimicked Elvis Presley’s hair and Pink had hers in a tall victory roll.
8) Bardot Eyes with Spider Lashes
Last but not least, only one person that I know of was sporting this look but it’s such a trend right now that I had to throw it in here … Ginnifer Goodwin was channelling a 60’s ‘Bardot eyes’ (eye makeup that resembles the way Brigitte Bardot used to do her eye makeup) type of look with ‘spider lashes’ that have been seen a lot on the runways but not really in the ‘real way’. What do you think … Did she pull it off and make the look wearable? I think it works for her at the AMA’s but I’m not sure if it would work for us regular ‘folk’ on a regular day out …
