Hot Hair, Makeup, and Fashion Inspiration from … Dark Shadows?!

Hot Hair, Makeup, and Fashion Inspiration from … Dark Shadows?!

So my husband and I went to watch the movie Dark Shadows the other night, and I found the fashion and beauty in the movie to be totally inspiring! I know it sounds weird, especially if all you’ve ever seen about the movie is Johnny Depp covered in crazy make up! … but please read on, I promise you’ll understand! Smile

In case you’re unfamiliar with the movie; it’s based on a Soap Opera about vampires, werewolves,  ghosts, ghouls, etc., that aired in the late 60’s to early 70’s which is when the movie is based. Accordingly, the cast’s outfits were influenced by 60’s/70’s retro looks with a Gothic feel … which is also what so much of this year’s Fall/Winter hair, beauty, and fashion trends are inspired by! (Does it all make sense now?).  So of course, as I watched the movie I ended up focusing on the ladies’ hair, makeup and clothing almost as much as I did on the actual storyline!  (The movie was actually pretty good too … it was funny and had great visuals if your into Tim Burton type movies).  Then to top it all off, as we were leaving the movie I realized the outfit that I was wearing totally fit the ‘look’ of the movie!  (I think I was subconsciously influenced by the trailer when I watched it before getting dressed!).  Anyways, here are some pictures from the movie and of my accidental theme related outfit. Smile

In this first picture Michelle Pfeiffer who played one of the main characters, looked like she was completely on trend with her hair in a  ‘milk maid’ braid  and a gorgeous statement necklace which was designed by her sister in-law Rona Pfeiffer:

Below, her and actress Helena Bonharm Carter both had hair that was full of volume with teasing at the crown for a ‘boufant’ like look.  See these Fall/Winter 2012 hair trends for more information about this trend. Smile

Eva Green who plays a witch named Angelique who is basically obsessed with Johnny Depp’s character had an alluring look with bold red lipsticks throughout the movie. See Fall/Winter 2012 Makeup Trends to try in South Africa Now! for more on this look.

I loved her hair in this scene where she is donning beautiful side swept vintage waves.

Bella Heathcote who play’s Victoria Winters; Johnny Depp’s heartthrob in the movie (Lucky her!)  also looks like she’s on trend with a cute blunt cut fringe.

Bella Heathcote as the "innocent" Josette.

And of course the BEST make up look goes too….

Johnny Depp as Barnabus the vampire!
